TWO WAYS I WORK WITH VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATIONS:

1. RETREAT FACILITATION

⇒ Need a facilitator for an upcoming retreat with former or current volunteers? I can help.

I bring my knowledge of volunteers, my coaching skills, and my 7 years’ teaching experience to facilitate volunteer retreats on life purpose and vocational discernment, values and personal mission work, renewal practices, time management, and other topics.

“Sara was an extremely valuable part of our Discerning Vocation During Changing Times retreat for former volunteers.

Several volunteers voiced appreciation for her ability to deeply listen, acknowledge, and appreciate what they had to say and give thoughtful, heartfelt responses to those questions. Retreat participants felt comfortable going to Sara for one-on-one discussions about their personal situations, as well as engaging with her in a large group setting during the sessions she facilitated. Sara was also a joy to work with behind the scenes, as the retreat was taking shape, and flexible as changes needed to be made on the fly.”

 2. CONSULTING

⇒ Want step-by-step support in designing and planning the agenda for your next volunteer retreat?  I am available.

Along with facilitating retreats, I also consult with groups facilitating their own retreats.

“As the International Volunteer Program Director for NPH USA, we asked Sara for a consultation on our former volunteer retreat structure.  We’d been providing former volunteer retreats for 4 years, but not all of the pieces were working well, and we were at a loss for how to move forward.

Sara immediately knew what we were asking for, even when we were not able to articulate it ourselves. She so clearly understands the volunteer journey, the struggles of re-entry, the beautiful parts and the hard aspects.

She provided us with a new framework for thinking about transitions, complete with readings and poetry, retreat activities and local contacts with other programs.

I think in this field of ‘volunteer management’ it is easy to think that anyone can guide volunteers.  It’s not true!  It’s a skilled profession; our volunteers deserve support staff who can adequately celebrate them and accompany them through transitions. The time that we spent with Sara was incredibly valuable, and I would highly recommend her services to others who work with volunteers.”
